Square assures players their personal information has not been compromised.

Final Fantasy XIV’s recent network troubles are the result of a third-party DDoS attack, Square Enix confirmed.

“We have confirmed that since Jun. 16th, we have been experiencing DDoS attacks from an anonymous third-party targeting the Final Fantasy XIV game servers on the NA data center,” Square Enix said in a statement posted on the Final Fantasy XIV website. The company added it’s “taking every possible measure to address” the attacks.

While the attacks have caused connectivity issues, Square Enix assures players their character data and personal information are secure. You can learn more about DDoS attacks by reading IGN’s in-depth explanation.

The news comes shortly after Square Enix released the game’s latest expansion, Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood, which is now available for $40 USD.

The online MMORPG is currently available on PlayStation 4 and PC, though director Naoki Yoshida recently said Square Enix is in discussions with Microsoft and Nintendo to bring Final Fantasy XIV to Xbox One and Switch.
