Nikon D500 Specs Review

Nikon announced their new flagship DX Camera at CES 2016. The Nikon D500 is a part of the Nikon DX DSLR family. Nikon D500 takes some of the power features which are also in the new FX Nikon camera, the Nikon D5. D5 and the Nikon D500 share the same autofocusing system and the new EXPEED 5 image processor and it combines it with the ease of use and the smaller body of the DX cameras.

The Nikon D500 is using a 20.9 megapixel APS-C sensor which is capable of recording 4K video at 30 frames per second. The Nikon D500 is also the first Nikon camera to feature the new SnapBridge image sharing technology. The camera has a always-on Bluetooth low energy connection which can communicate with your smart devices so you can transfer images to your smartphone wirelessly.

Nikon D500 is a higher end camera than the Nikon D7000 series, and it is also a replacement for the Nikon D300S. The Nikon D500 body will cost $1.999,95 once when it is released in March of 2016. If you want to buy the camera in a kit configuration with a AF-S Nikkor 16-80mm f/2.8-4E ED VR lens, it will cost you $3.069,65.

Here are some of the Nikon D500 primary features:

  • Powerful 153 point AF system: D500’s Multi-CAM 20K autofocus sensor module offers a dense configuration of 153 focus points (99 cross sensors) that covers an extremely wide portion of the image area, meaning that even fast-moving subjects can be acquired precisely.
  • High-speed continuous shooting at 10 fps for up to 200 shots: D500 delivers high-speed continuous shooting at approx. 10 fps for up to 200 shots in JPEG and in 14-bit lossless compressed RAW, without any drop in shooting speed.
  • 4K UHD video: D500 can record 4K UHD (3840 x 2160)/30p/25p/24p as well as 1080/60p video, with simultaneous output via HDMI available. It is also possible to generate 4K UHD time-lapse movies within the camera. In Full HD or HD mode, the D500’s electronic Vibration Reduction function reduces the effects of camera shake in the horizontal, vertical and rotational directions during hand-held movie recording.
  • New EXPEED 5 image processor: D500’s new EXPEED 5 image-processing engine, as used in the D5, delivers standard ISO sensitivity from 100 to 51200, expandable down to Lo 1 (ISO 50 equivalent) and up to Hi 5 (ISO 1640000 equivalent). It can capture exceptionally high-definition images, while effectively reducing noise even at high ISO settings.
