Magnolia grandiflora cone and Zelus longipes nymphs



This is the Cone of a southern Magnolia (Magnolia grandiflora) tree.

If you look closely at the one in the back in the picture below, you can see the antenna head and proboscis. I've been told they can bite at this stage. I love to learn, but I don't need that lesson! 

These are good bugs in a vegetable garden because they eat the plant destroying pests. However, they are not a butterfly gardener's friend.
