Huffington Post: When Machiavelli Dons Tibetan Robes

Just two weeks after the Huffington Post wrote its first exposé of the Dorje Shugden controversy on November 14, 2017, they have published a follow-up. The Huffington Post, widely known as HuffPost, is an immensely popular digital media group that has won many awards for its commitment to deliver fair and balanced journalism. HuffPost is known to publish stories that are free from the political persuasions of any existing power structure. So when a media outlet of this calibre covers the Dorje Shugden issue, it comes after a careful and objective examination of the facts. Finally, after staying buried for over 20 years, the very damaging Dorje Shugden ban is getting the news coverage it deserves. Damaging because it has caused so much division and disharmony in Tibetan society, as well as the Buddhist community globally. Some people may call it a dispute or a controversy to try and downplay its harm but let’s call it what it really is: in 1996, the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), in other words the Tibetan leadership, imposed a religious ban on a large percentage of its own citizens by playing on the Tibetan people’s loyalty and devotion towards His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
