Prayer – a powerful weapon for victorious living

Tags: prayer

It’s stated that in order to realize a victory there must be a battle. And we are in a battle, but not in the way that most people think. Scripture states, “We wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Eph. 6:12

In this same chapter of Ephesians we are also told of the armor we have had provided to be victorious against the wiles of the enemy. We’re told about the armor of salvation, truth, righteousness, preparedness, faith and the Sword of the Spirit, which is God’s Word. The whole topic concludes however, with the weapon of Prayer. “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints.” Ephesians 6:13-18

Our conflict with evil takes vigilance, wakefulness and perseverance in prayer. At the same time, the prayer warrior understands the unlimited resources and provisions released from Heaven’s kingdom when we pray.

In our war against the powers of darkness, prayer is the mightiest weapon. Prayer will accomplish what no manner of human striving could. Prayer honors God. It acknowledges our dependence upon God and exhibits a vigorous faith in Him. Prayer acknowledges His being, exalts His power, adores His providence and secures His aid.

It is in the practice of prayer that we find the answer to the baffling enigma of divine omnipotence versus human responsibility. God has the power to solve any problem. But He holds His power at bay until invited to intervene.

So we are charged in Scripture: “Pray without ceasing” 1Thes. 5:17; “..in everything by prayer” Phil.4:6; “continuing instant in prayer” Col. 4:2; to “Pray everywhere” 1Tim.2:8; “praying always” Col. 1:3

And the promise of God is as unlimited as the command is comprehensive. “All things whatsoever you ask in prayer believing, you shall receive” Matt 21:22. Jesus said, “Whatsoever you ask” Jn.14:13 “If you shall ask anything”Jn.14:14 “You shall ask what you will and it shall be done unto you.”Jn.15:17 “Whatsoever you ask the Father…He will give it to you” Jn.16:23

Paul the Apostle goes on to say: “Unto Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that is at work in us” Eph. 3:20. The promise is, “Call unto Me, and I will show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not” God has called us into victorious living and has given us everything we need to walk in that victory. But it is up to us to use the weapons He has provided.
