Dark sayings of the wise

Long ago my father told me that every book ever written on how to pick up girls works (turns out books on how to pick up girls have been around for a long time), because if you just put yourself out there good things happen.

I’ve been reading a free ebook from a guy who has been to hell and back on this. It all rings so very true.

Looking back on it all, game did great things for me. It also screwed me up a lot as well. I think of a lot of interactions that could have gone better, but my devotion to game made things go harder. The trouble is the good mixed in with the bad.

Game, as long as it is understood as self development is a very good thing. Confidence is good. Self improvement is good. Game understood as “any woman can be seduced with enough game” is taking it too far.

I think there is great truth in game, and the counterpoint is that it isn’t game it’s common sense.

Everything is obvious once it is explained to you. Game “worked” for me in that it taught me to keep going with women. It also taught me that displaying masculine characteristics is attractive. It taught me that flipping the script  (would you accept/reject this behavior if the roles were reversed) is a good guideline for setting boundaries.

Sounds obvious right? None of this was obvious to me without game. Seriously, I think the culture and environment had screwed me up that much. I was oblivious to girls who actually like me because it was so far outside my frame of reference that I couldn’t see it.

But learning the game from the guys I learned it from came with baggage. The baggage of a million dirty pick ups with tramps in bars and clubs. “You have to act like this” or “that”. It might work for the really screwed up girl with fake breasts and mileage. It wasn’t appropriate with the decent girls I liked. Different environments attract different people.

On the other hand, some things are golden. Athol Kays’ writing and some of the stuff from RSD is really great for understanding common sense.

Put another way, nothing is obvious until it is explained to you.
