In the same way that Jesus did not come to be Born in Rome or Jerusalem, the important places of that time, I think that if today He came again he would not be born in New York or London or Beijing. Today perhaps Jesus would come to be born in the small village of Mirtinga from where I have just arrived after celebrating Christmas with them. A place lost in the middle of the tea plantations, that does not come in the maps, in which 20 Christian families live lost in a sea of Muslims and Hindus. The celebration has been a lesson of fervor, joy, welcome, humility and dignity. I come convinced that Jesus has been reborn today in my old and comfortable heart full of dust. And blessed be the simple people, because they understand better than anyone what Christmas is about, and they celebrate it better than anyone else. Merry Christmas to all!

De la misma manera que Jesús no vino a nacer en Roma o Jerusalén, los sitios importantes de aquel entonces, pienso que si hoy viniera otra vez no nacería en Nueva York o Londres o Pekín. Hoy quizá Jesús vendría a nacer en la pequeña aldea de Mirtinga de la que acabo de llegar después de celebrar con ellos la Navidad. Lugar perdido en medio de las plantaciones de té, que no viene en los mapas, en el que viven 20 familias cristianas perdidas en un mar de musulmanes e hindúes. La celebración ha sido una lección de fervor, alegría, acogida, humildad y dignidad. Vengo convencido de que Jesús ha renacido hoy en mi viejo y acomodado corazón lleno de telarañas. Y bendita sea la gente sencilla, porque ellos entienden mejor que nadie de qué va la Navidad, y lo celebran mejor que nadie. Feliz Navidad a todos.
