Are there sins in Buddhism?

The short answer to this question is yes.  There are "sins" in Buddhism.  However, in Buddhism, we don't really refer to them as Sins, they are more referred to as misconduct.  Things like lying, stealing, and killing, are basic things that Buddhism teaches you not to do.  These are basic things you should abstain from if you wish to advance on your path to enlightenment.  In Buddhism, however, we believe that you don't really go to "hell" for your "sins".

We don't really believe in a "hell", we believe in multiple hells, which can be escaped.  We sentence OURSELVES to these multiple hells through misconduct and bad karma.  If you wish to escape from these hells, you must make right with the universe by doing good deeds, which will then set your karma straight.  I hope this clears up any confusion anyone reading this may have about "sins" in Buddhism.  Do you have a comment on this subject?  Please leave a comment and share your wisdom with the rest of us!
