I’ve recently been struggling with showing enough affection to each of my children. I have a 3 month old and a 22 month old, so life is busy and my attention is definitely split. This morning was especially difficult because my baby woke up super excited! He was kicking, smiling, cooing, and just oh so happy! Of course I wanted to show him Love, talk with him, and listen to what he had to say.
But then nearby was my beautiful firstborn, who is still getting used to sharing me. She was asking me to play with her, which she actually doesn’t do often so I wanted to be with her at the time she asked.
I had to share my time and in the end, one had to be patient and try to understand. I wish that I could give both all the attention they crave. They’re both very content, relaxed children who can play independently. But that doesn’t mean they never want my attention so what do I do when they both want it at the same time?
Thankfully, our heavenly Father doesn’t have this problem.
He can work in our lives, listen to our prayers, answer our prayers, and show love to all His children at once. Think about how wonderful that is! We never have to wait in line, share our time with Him, or wonder if He’s too busy! He is always with us!
How do I know this to be true?
Matthew 28:20– “And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.
Deuteronomy 31:6– “Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”
Psalm 139:7– “Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? ”
Jeremiah 23:23-24– ““Am I a God at hand, declares the Lord, and not a God far away? Can a man hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him? declares the Lord. Do I not fill heaven and earth? declares the Lord.”
Romans 8:38-39 “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Zephaniah 3:17– “The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.
And now because of Jesus’ death and resurrection, those of us in Christ have the Holy Spirit living inside of us!
1 Corinthians 3:16 – “Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?
John 14:16-17– “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.”
He’s Never Too Busy
He is never too busy for us. I just love this truth because all we know in this life is busyness. Even the most loving person we know can’t always be there for us. But God is always with us. He is all-powerful (omnipotent), all-knowing (omniscient), and everywhere (omnipresent). He is sovereign over all and nothing is too hard for Him (Jeremiah 32:17).
That is not to say that everything is all about us because it is absolutely all about Him. He created us for His glory (Isaiah 43:7). But when we call upon Him by His grace, He’s there for us. Praise be to God!
