Little Things

Here’s the lesson: Use your Worldly resources to benefit others and make friends. Then, when your possessions are gone, they will welcome you to an eternal home. “If you are Faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities. And if you are untrustworthy about worldly wealth, who will trust you with the true riches of heaven?
—Luke 16:9-11 (NLT)

Whenever we hear a rich or successful person complaining, our first reaction is usually to say that they should have nothing to complain about. What could make someone feel miserable, when they are living a life full of many blessings? Having blessings will not exempt us from having problems. In fact, sometimes, the bigger the blessing, the greater the trouble it takes to maintain it. However, the people who are able to be faithful with little are usually the ones who also know how to handle the responsibilities of having much.

For this reason, I believe everyone should try to master how to be content with simple things. No matter how much we have (or don’t have), things like family connections, nature, corny jokes, and even silence are priceless and often hold much value. Unfortunately, sometimes the most effective times that we learn to understand the value of such simple things, are during moments when we are reduced to nothing or when we have close to nothing at all. When we understand the value of simple things, during those times when we have little, we can usually be more responsible at maintaining our Stability through the pressures of success and all that comes with it.

Who are you when you have nothing, or even no one? If you can maintain your stability when you have little to nothing, then you might also be better at maintaining your stability when you are given much more. Do not despise any of those things that are often devalued in this world as “small.” Those are usually the types of things that can keep us the most grounded. What would keep you anchored when you have everything you could ever think of? What would even be the point of you living then? Learning to be faithful with little is literally what teaches us the answers to such questions. Find beauty in simple things in order to be able to withstand the pressures of having great responsibilities.

Lots of Love, XO
