What You Say (About Yourself)

The Lord replied, “Don’t say, ‘I’m too young,’ for you must go wherever I Send you and say whatever I tell you.
—Jeremiah 1:7 (NLT)

Remember how Proverbs 18:21 says, “The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.” Sometimes, people can pick up the very poor habit of speaking negativity about themselves. My sister often says, our subconscious has no sense of humor. That means that even when a person jokingly puts themselves down, they are subtly solidifying a Negative perception of themselves within their own brain. The opposite is also true. When we say uplifting words about ourselves, our brain often subtly registers those words as truth.

We live in a society that sometimes tells us that people will feel more “comfortable” around us when we are putting ourselves down. Unfortunately, your purpose and your future are on the line if ever your words do not line up with God’s plan for your life. In the scripture above, God said to Jeremiah, “Don’t say, ‘I’m too young,’ for you must go wherever I send you and say whatever I tell you.” If Jeremiah said the wrong words to himself, it could have interfered with his ability to do the things he was ordained to do. What about you? What words do you say about yourself? Are you saying positive things, or negative things, concerning your abilities, your future, and your current state of being?

Never be afraid to speak positively of yourself—and also do not be afraid to speak those things boldly. Learn to get in the mirror and remind yourself of who God says you are. When people speak negatively of themselves, it gets to the point that negative fates become easier for them to visualize. Please, do not let that become your portion. Never say that you are too young, or too old, too far gone, or that your situation is too hopeless. Always remember that God has a plan for your life. His words should be what dictate your future. So remember to monitor the things you are saying about yourself. Let your words always line up with God’s Word, His will, and the plans He has ordained for you to fulfill your purpose in this world.

Lots of Love, XO
