All athletes that compete in a sporting event want to win. In the Olympics for example, there are only three medals for the finalists: the gold, silver and bronze. In order to win you must be very good at your event. Training and discipline come next.

Apart from regular long period of training, you must watch your eating and drinking habits. Many sports men and women have been disqualified in recent years for doping. President Harry Truman said, "In reading the lives of great men, I have found that the first victory won was over themselves. Self-discipline, with all of them came first."
In our text of today, Apostle Paul compared the characteristics of a winning athlete to those of a Christian pilgrim, thus: self-discipline and keeping to the rules of the game. In the Christian race, we also need self-discipline if we are to make heaven and win the crowns of glory and righteousness. You will not miss yours if you are faithful to the Lord and His word. Avoid all distractions and run with patience for your rewards.DCLM Higher Everyday

Prayer: Oh God, help me to run to win in Jesus' name.
