Robert A. Johnson May 26, 1921 – September 12, 2018 San Diego

Robert A. Johnson, Jungian author and lecturer, died on September 12, 2018, in San Diego.

He was 97. Mr. Johnson was born in Portland, Oregon, on May 26, 1921.

He was the only child of Alexius Johnson and Clara Gladys Williamson Johnson.Mr. Johnson studied at the University of Oregon and Stanford University.

He was a student of Jiddu Krishnamurti in Ojai, California; and he was a student at the C. G. Jung Institute in Switzerland in the years following WW II.In the 1950’s,

Mr. Johnson established a practice in Analytical Psychology in Los Angeles with fellow Jung Institute graduate, Helen Luke.

Mr. Johnson closed this practice in 1963, and for the next four years was a member of St. Gregory’s Abbey in Three Rivers, Michigan, a Benedictine monastery of the Episcopal Church.In 1968,

Mr. Johnson moved to San Diego where he resumed his career as a Jungian analyst and lecturer.

In 1974 a collection of his lectures were published as a book,

He: Understanding Masculine Psychology.

Over the next three decades, Mr. Johnson published another dozen books that were translated into multiple languages and sold millions of copies worldwide.

He lectured extensively, both domestically and internationally.Mr. Johnson is survived by his timeless books, millions of inspired and heartened readers, and friends from all corners of the globe.

A memorial service will be held on January 19, 2019 at 2:00 PM at St. Paul’s Cathedral in San Diego.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Tubb Canyon Deseret Conservancy.
