It would appear that Mourinho’s view of Pogba has dimmed. Now, consider this: Yesterday afternoon, as United’s squad gathered at their hotel, Mourinho named his starting XI to face Seville to his players. Pogba’s name was not mentioned until he got to the substitutes. Those in the room were surprised. Considering that this was United’s biggest game of the season, why not pick your best midfielder?
Knowing Mourinho as we do, this might just be a power play from the Portuguese. He was clearly asserting his authority and challenging Pogba. Mourinho demands mental as well as physical toughness from his subjects. Should a player miss a game if he has a little niggle? Mourinho would rather pick a young midfielder than a player whose commitment he doubts, even if United paid £89 million to sign him.
