This week, ESPN announced the broadcasting crew for the Detroit Lions’ season opener against the New York Jets on “Monday Night Football.” Former NFL quarterback Brian Griese will be paired up with Beth Mowins, who made her “Monday Night Football” debut last year during the evening game.

Griese has found a nice home after his Playing Career, serving mostly as one of ESPN’s staple college football announcers.

That got one of our readers thinking, and Frank Murphy submitted this for Question of the Day:

Who is your favorite former Lion turned broadcaster/sports talk personality?

His answer:

I can think of several who’ve made a splash … Gary Danielson, Charlie Sanders, Chris Spielman, Damien Woody, Nate Burleson, Lomas Brown, Dan Orlovsky, Erik Kramer, Desmond Howard, Geoff Schwartz, and probably several more…

My answer: So far, I love what Dan Orlovsky is doing and I can’t wait to see how he handles his new role at ESPN, but he hasn’t done enough yet to be considered the best.

However, ever since Nate Burleson ended his playing career in 2014, he has been an absolute pleasure to listen to as a football analyst. I’m not just saying this because he seems to be overly supportive of Detroit and the Lions, he’s actually very, very good at this job.

He’s energetic, he’s enthusiastic, he has a ton of experience to draw upon, and, most importantly, he’s very smart in his analysis. Very rarely will you hear Burleson drop a “hot take” or say anything outlandish just for the attention.

He has everything a studio analyst should have: Personality, smarts, and experience. It’s no wonder Burleson has earned several roles in a post-playing career, including his co-hosting role at “Good Morning Football” and analyst for “The NFL Today” on CBS.
