Lions-Falcons injury report: Jarrad Davis, Travis Swanson sit during Wednesday’s practice

The Lions had three key starters missing from Wednesday’s Practice.

Unlike the past two weeks, the Detroit Lions were a little shorthanded at practice on Wednesday. Three starters were missing from the lineup: linebacker Jarrad Davis, safety Tavon Wilson and center Travis Swanson.

Davis is the most concerning of the three. The Lions’ first-round pick went straight into concussion protocol after a head-first collision with Giants running back Paul Perkins left him down on the field for a couple minutes.

It appears he hasn’t been cleared from protocol yet, but there was at least one positive sign that this may not be a long-term Injury for Davis:

Meinke is referring to the fact that light sensitivity is a common symptom of severe concussions. Davis likely wouldn’t be outside at all if he was experiencing those symptoms. In order to clear concussion protocol and be eligible to play in Sunday’s game, Davis must practice at least once this week. He now only has two more practices left before being unable to play this week against Atlanta.

Swanson, who has dealt with concussion issues of his own, was also out on Wednesday with an ankle injury. As Justin Rogers points out, this is likely the result of a play in which Swanson was leg whipped early in the game. Swanson finished the game without missing a single snap, so there’s reason to believe this is just a chance for him to rest and get right.

Wilson suffered a shoulder injury and did not return to Monday’s game. Miles Killebrew stepped in for the injured Wilson and played admirably. Killebrew was beginning to take on a bigger role in the defense even before Wilson’s injury, so if Wilson can’t go, it should be—all things considered—a seamless transition to Killebrew.

On the Falcons side of things, the team has already declared starting pass rushers Vic Beasley Jr. and Courtney Upshaw out for Sunday’s game against the Lions. Additionally, starting right tackle Ryan Schraeder was out during Wednesday’s practice while he goes through concussion protocol. All three players were injured during Sunday night’s game against the Packers.
