Who has been the Lions’ MVP through two preseason games?

We’re already halfway through the preseason. That means we’re just under three weeks away from the start of the regular season.

That also means that we’ve already had a pretty good look at the 2017 Detroit Lions. Although their competition has been anything but stiff, we’ve seen some of the new players play and observed how some of last year’s players developed.

So today’s Question of the Day is:

Which Lions player has been most impressive through two preseason games?

My answer: This is a tough question because there hasn’t been a breakout performance by any players that was matched in a second game. Kenny Golladay wowed in the first game, but was invisible in the second. Akeem Spence was a non-factor against the Colts, but had a breakout performance against the Jets.

But if there was one player that I believe played well above average in both games, it’s defensive end Anthony Zettel.

I will fully admit that I had little expectations for Zettel, not only this year, but for his entire career. After a disappointing rookie year, I wasn’t even sure if Zettel would be on the Lions roster in 2017. But in two games, Zettel has managed to shift my expectations from bubble player to potential starter. In two games, Zettel has just four tackles and one QB hit, but if you’re watching the games, you know that he has been bringing constant pressure on the edge.

Zettel’s play certainly needs to be put into context, considering the Lions have played two of the worst teams in the league. But with so little individual expectations combined with the Lions’ drastic need for a pass rusher, no one has been more impressive (and stress relieving) as Anthony Zettel.
