The Nfl Owners meetings are next week and there are several Rule change proposals on the docket.

NFL owners are meeting this weekend in Arizona to discuss several things. One of the biggest issues is the potential relocation of the Oakland Raiders to Las Vegas, a move that is expected to see little-to-no resistance.

But in addition to team moving, the owners will be discussing a slew of new NFL rule proposals. Earlier in the week, Tim Twentyman of DetroitLions.com detailed all of the 24 proposals that will be under discussion this week. You can read every single one here.

Today’s Question of the Day is:

Which of the 24 rule change proposals is your favorite?

My answer: I love the idea of making a kickoff through the uprights worth five yards. Twentyman has the details:

By Washington: Moves the line of scrimmage to the 20-yard line for any touchback where the free kick travels through the uprights.

This would add a tiny bit of additional excitement to the kickoff, but it would also accomplish the league’s goal of reducing the number of dangerous kick returns. This rule change would likely result in fewer teams trying to land a kickoff right at the goal line in the hopes to force a return that’s stopped short of the 25. Instead, they can remove the possibility of a long return by simply aiming between the uprights and kicking like hell.

It’s a rule change that’s small enough to not drastically change the game, while creative enough to possibly add an extra smidge of excitement where it had been severely lacking. That’s my kind of rule.
