Date Night #118: The Best Things to do This Week

It’s still cool outside, but these events are Hot Hot HOT! From art shows to pasta to exercise to bingo, we’ve got all the stuff you need to get the most of your NYC week.

Fri 2: Jon Legere: Flotsam

Calico Brooklyn 67 West St, Ste 203, 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM, Free
Jon Legere, a mixed-media artist whose work has been featured in the Whitney, is here for his third NYC solo exhibit. This one features found items; form and color created from the discarded.

Fri 2: PharmaBro, An American Douchical

Players Theater, 115 Macdougal St, 8:00 PM, $47-$67
Well, he’s been banned from Twitter forever, so you’ll just have to see the most famous man in pharmaceutical news on the stage. This is a really fun show, featuring the Wu Tang Clan, Bill Murray, and Old Dirty Bastard as a ghost. The dude who plays Martin Shkreli is literally amazing on a hover board.

Sat 3: Pasta Festival

Eataly NYC Flatiron 200 5th Ave, 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM, $5-$25
Have you even been to Eataly? Yeah, it’s a little touristy, but OMG THE FOOD- and just for today, at tasting prices! I brought my dad here when he visited a few years ago and he almost forgave me for feverishly growl-raging at him for not waiting to stop and gawk at Billy on the Street, which was filming outside. Get there early- it’s gonna be crowded!

Sat 3: Wonder Woman Day Celebration

Midtown Comics Downtown, 64 Fulton Street, 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM, $what you buy
As you may have heard, there is a movie coming out soon featuring one of the most badass women in comics history. They’ll have signings with artists Cliff Chiang, Phil Jimenez, and Brian Azzarello, as well as lots of prizes and golden lassos of truth (I assume.)

Sun 4: Hoboken Wellness Crawl

Various locations, 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM, $20
It’s a whole day devoted to discovering wellness, health, and fitness in Hoboken! This group has coordinated with dozens of organizations dedicated to health (from Cross Fit to yoga to university medical centers) to introduce even the most couchiest of potatoes to all of the fitness opportunities Hoboken has to offer. Even if you don’t live there, for $20 there are plenty of freebies to make it worth the trip.

Sun 4: Hootenanny Pop-up Activist Art Shop and Cocktail Party

Hootenanny Art House, 426 – 428 15th St, Brooklyn, 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM, Free
Hootenanny Art House is a really great little community space with classes and events and art in the windows. If you’re anywhere near Park Slope this Sunday afternoon, come have a cocktail, meet some activists, and support Planned Parenthood and the ACLU.

Tues 6: The Friendship Comedy Collective’s June Show!

Tender Trap, 66 Greenpoint Ave, Brooklyn, 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM, Free
It’s another joyful release from your very funny friends at The Friendship Comedy Collective! Not only do you get to enjoy a brand-new night of sketch comedy, you also get to walk away with a ziiiiine! Do you like laughs and fun? If not, what the heck are you doing reading the Internet? Go back to your stodgy old books!

Thurs 8: Bingo! Bryant Park

Bryant Part, 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM, Free
Did you know that Bingo is almost 500 years old, and while it originated in Italy was long played by the French elite as Le Lotto? Do yourself a favor and read all about it. ANYWAY, you can play this classic game of chance for yourself… for free!
