8 Realistic Ways You Can Keep Your Relationship Healthy

With so much advice out there on how to maintain or rebuild your relationship, it could get overwheming just trying to keep up with your relationship.

There are so many do's and don'ts that you are confused about which ones to take and which ones to ignore. That's why I decided to write these realistic tips on how to keep your already healthy relationship in tact.

There are plenty of things that you should avoid in order to make your relationship strong, healthy and free of unnecessary arguments.

But, I'm going to mention the most important tips that can help any relationship stay healthy; be it casual or romantic.

In order to keep your loving relationship super healthy, you need to look at these tips:

#1 DON'T be right all the time

There's nothing more frustrating in a relationship than a person who insists that they are always right. No one is right all of the time, and it's time that you realized that.

It takes a much stronger person to admit that they were wrong than it is for someone to not admit that they may have made a mistake. Don't be the know it all or the Mr perfect. Admit it when you're wrong!

#2 DON'T refuse to apologize

You will definitely have something that you need to apologize for at some point in your relationship, even if you don't think it's a big deal.

When you tell your partner you are sorry about something you did, you allow them to see that you are willing to move past obstacles in order to have a healthier relationship.

And even if you don't think that you are wrong, apologizing is a great way to start fixing the situation instead of making it worse.

#3 DON'T know the other person better than they know themselves

If you've ever been in a fight or a discussion when another person claims to know what you want, doesn't that feel frustrating?

You want to avoid trying to prove that you know more about the other person than they do - because that is just so untrue and annoying.

Take the time to consider your partner's feelings and thoughts when they tell them to you.

Don't make the conversation feel one sided by assuming you know what your partner wants.

#4 DON'T assume anything

When you start to assume something, you start to blur the truth. If you are confused about something your partner is doing, ask him about it. Don't assume anything!

Assuming that someone feels a certain way or that they want you to act a certain way is only going to set you up for possible problems. Assumptions only breed insecurities.

#5 DON'T rub it in

If you actually find out that you are right about something, don't constantly rub the fact in long after the discussion is over.

Your relationship isn't about someone being right; it's about the two of you being happy. If you're right, you're right: just move on, you don't need to rub it in or make a fuss.

Your partner will not appreciate being reminded that they were wrong neither will they feel happy that you are always bringing up their past mistakes!

#6 DON'T put your priorities first

While you both want to have your needs and wants addressed, don't try to focus more on your own needs than your partner's needs; you will be seen as selfish and uncaring.

A healthy relationship means that you put someone else's needs before your own while allowing your needs to be fulfilled as well. Try to compromise from time time so that both of you can be happy.

#7 DON'T interrupt your partner during a conversation

When you're trying to drive home a point, you might feel that your words are more important than your partner's but this is so not helpful.

If you keep interrupting someone during a conversation, two things are likely to happen.

One, you don't hear what the other person is saying. Two, you show that your opinions are more important than theirs.

Learn to listen while your partner talks and make a mental note to bring up your points when you've absorbed every word.

#8 DON'T make promises you can't keep

We know you aren't perfect, but when someone is counting on you to help maintain a good relationship; you need to be able to hold up your own side of the bargain.

This means that you need to be able to fulfill all the promises that you make.

And when you make a promise to someone, they need to be able to believe that you will follow through - every time.

If you can't keep a promise, then let them know that you will try your best! This allows them to have realistic expectations of you.

#9 DON'T go to bed angry

I know this sounds kinda cliché but it works all the time. When you feel offended about something, talk it out with your partner.

Don't go to bed with grudges simply because you don't want to be the first person to break the silence by talking.

The bravest people are the ones who take the first step. Stop going to bed angry and desist from keeping grudges! It's unhealthy for your relationship.

No relationship is perfect, but there are realistic ways that you can keep yours from becoming unhealthy.
