The concept for Old Iron Creamery started as a hobby over a decade ago. Owner Daylen Borders, along with his brother and father started restoring old antique tractors and taking them to nearby shows. When Daylen came across an antique 1937 Model E John Deere engine, he knew he had to do something different to really show it off. What came next? Well naturally, John Deere ice cream.

Daylen, along with his wife, started up Old Iron Creamery. Old Iron Creamery’s mission is simple, to produce the best tasting homemade ice cream around using their old-time, 5-gallon ice cream freezer and a 1930s John Deere Hit-n-Miss engine. The engine is inside a trailer, appropriately colored to match the trademark John Deere Green, which is set up to a variety of pulleys that make the ice cream buckets churn away.

Watching this process is a fascinating experience, both for antique engine fans and lovers of good ice cream.

Based in Kilgore, Texas, Old Iron Creamery attends as many festivals, fairs and special events as possible.
