Review of 'Killing Floor', by Lee Child.

Killing Floor by Lee Child

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

We are introduced to Jack Reacher in Lee Child's novel, 'Killing Floor'.
This is a fast-paced book. No unnecessary padding. Tight writing. Efficient and well constructed scenes. Little wonder that following this introduction to Lee Childs writing, he gained recognition as a major thriller writer.
The plot unfolds in a satisfactory way. Quite early on in the story we are on Reacher's side because nasty characters are forcing themselves onto others and Lee Child has the reader wanting revenge. We soon realise that Jack Reacher is the man who will exact that revenge and, although his revenge on the nasties is bloodthirsty at times, it comes at the right time and Reacher's justice is as clear as black and white. There is no fuzzy edged justice like we tend to get these days outside of novels. Reacher gets straight to the point. In this intro to our acquaintance with Jack Reacher, we learn that, if someone crosses him who has hurt one of his own, Reacher does not forget it and poetic justice follows.
I won't go into the details of the story; I will leave you to explore that for yourself but what I will say is that the plot is original and the book is well worth reading. This book will go onto my shelf to read again at some point. It will not be sold.
Now I'll have a break from Lee Child for a couple of books. But you bet I'll be back for another Reacher novel.
By the way, Lee Child was born in my home town, Coventry, in the ancient county of Warwickshire in the UK. Warwickshire has produced noteworthy writers, George Elliot, and the Bard of Stratford Upon Avon, William Shakespeare. Poet, Phillip Larkin was born in Coventry. He was a librarian here. There is even a science fiction author who is writing at present. There must be something writerly about this area of England!

Until next time,
Best wishes,
JJ
