You may or may not have heard heard of Bitcoin or other crypto currencies. This post isn't about them — but it does start with them.

The idea of a network that nobody owns, that can be used to facilitate transfers, has excited people in recent times and for good reason. There are so many benefits such as being immune to inflation. I'm not going to pretend to know the M-levels of inflation and how it works deep down but what I do know is that my money in Bitcoin is stable while my country's currency is becoming "junk status". Bitcoin is taxless and virtually anonymous and even if a whole country's network collapses, there will be other countries supporting the Bitcoin network.

But why stop at money?

The blockchain system that Bitcoin is built on can be used for so much more. An excellent example is the SiaCoin crypto currency. The only reason it exists is to create micro transactions for decentralised Cloud storage. Volunteers who have extra space and bandwidth rent out their storage as cloud storage using SiaCoin as collateral to start renting contracts and then get paid in SiaCoin.

The process is Safe because your data is encrypted, duplicated and spread over many servers to ensure that one's data can always be accessed. This has the potential to be safer than centralised cloud providers. And as far as I know, no-one owns it.

Imagine a future where our software and services aren't limited by the decisions of organisations. The power is placed into our hands. Everything will be more stable. I would be tickled pink if a decentralised blogging platform gets made. That would be an immortalised source of news, safe from any government.

This blogging site could be networked through Tor, which is another example
of digital decentralisation. A safe network.

Progress! Ideas! I'm so excited that I'm going to run in my wheel.
