Akwa Ibom and Udom’s Propaganda Machine

Akwa Ibom and Udom’s Propaganda Machine

It is pertinent to acknowledge the fact that Nigerians are preparing towards electing a new set of leaders come 2019 to paddle the affairs
of the country till 2023.

A candid observation has proven that Nigerians are smart-working and highly politically motivated people at all time and setting. We appreciate and encourage good governance, both reality and media stimulated, not minding that there should be a seriousness of purpose that must under-gird our approach to 2019 general elections and our possible choices, if better Nigeria is our common dream.

However, it seems that it may not necessarily sounds exaggerating by going with the feelings that not every citizen of Akwa Ibom State has
the ability to practically learn from experience, positively or otherwise to distinguish good governance with political propaganda.

This implies that those that refuse to learn had make the state to stand still, without progress, especially, each time they troop-out to celebrate the government propaganda and shadow performance, for the sake of receiving peanuts from the politicians. Sadly, this is exactly what has been playing on in strong measure in Akwa Ibom State, paving way for Governor Udom Emmanuel and his bootlickers, called aides to deceive the poor populace at will.

Today, government propaganda is more like a signature tune in every radio stations in the state that the governor and government have done more than even expected in just two years of this administration, but one cannot clearly nominate one single project that has sincerity of purpose for completion.

Udom’s two years has clearly demonstrated that propaganda is a vital tool for governance in this administration, while forgetting that no government has ever survived on propaganda.

However, it is true though it is sad that Governor Udom Emmanuel’s led government can easily be identified as the government that cannot survive purely on the platter of good governance and super performance devoid of the art of propaganda.

Meanwhile, it is important to note that the recent media war that Udom’s led government waged against the former deputy governor of the state and the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mr. Nsima Ekere, lacks substance and it is unnecessary propaganda just to tarnish the man’s political reputation before the populace, since the man in question wields immense political power and influence than him.

It is on record that Mr. Ekere was one of his strong political opponents in Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) prior to the December 10, 2014 primaries that arouse the progressive interest of Ekere to abandon the party for All Progressive Congress (APC).

It is worthy of note that the NDDC boss took over the affairs of the commission about six months ago with over 80 percent of uncompleted projects dotting around the state, of which even the governor can attest it. On a very serious note, the governor should not be casting blames on the incumbent NDDC boss over the projects not been completed in the state, since possible records reveals that those projects were awarded during the days of PDP leadership in the commission.

So far, NDDC is imparting positively on the welfare of the state, recently, the governor applauded the commission on the generating set donated to the Ibom Specialist Hospital, while begging for funds to upgrade Dr. Umo Isong Health Centre in Onna Local Government Area to secondary
health facility.

Be it as it may, Governor Udom is being threatened by Ekere’s political pedigree that is why he is jittery, angry and afraid. He must know that his personal and selfish interest should not retard the development of Akwa Ibom state and people.

However, it is imperative that the governor and his bootlickers should be completely ashamed to brag in the media of super performance or
good governance, when the welfare of the Akwa Ibom people that he supposed to add value to, is completely in shambles. Our education sector is fast-decaying and the pensioners are dying everyday of hunger and sickness without getting their statutory entitlements for any cogent reasons.

This is so annoying. Now, let’s imagine a governor whom his bootlickers generally claims to be a very sound technocrat based on track-records with Zenith Bank Plc, leading Akwa Ibom State without a well defined master-plan, yet he is accusing NDDC projects of interfering with the state’s master-plan or is celebrated of good governance and super performance.

It should be noted that good governance and super performance are typical products of good work, and not just a compliment as it is today in the state. It must be accepted that Dr. Clement Isong and Obong Victor Attah earns their medals of good governance and super performance from the people through good works, and not through sycophantic appraisal. It is true that the governor performances in two years have defined him as a light featherweight governor.

On a serious note, if you are tempted to ask the governor or his bootlickers one project that they have completed in the state in the last two years, they shall be in a haste to list frivolities like Peacock Paint, AKEES Pencil and Tooth-picks Factory, Meter Factory, Cocoanut Plantation, Cocoanut Refinery, Syringe Factory, Automobile Plant, Flour Mill, Second Run-way, over 7000 kilometers of roads, Agro-revolution and all other poppycock dotted around the state since May 29, 2015 in the name of good governance and super performance.

Then, the possible impression that may fly into your mind may be, how viable are these projects in terms of curbing youth unemployment and boosting the internally generated revenue of the state?

Sincerely, the true of the matter is that these projects have a very little contribution in the daily lives of Akwa Ibom people; else the army of the unemployed youth seen in every political gathering in the state should have been reduced. Two years down the line, unemployment is at the peak despite numerous projects commissioned by the governor.

Better still, ask his bootlickers about the dividends of democracy, they will tell you continuation of free health care delivery system and free education, when health and educational facilities are fast decaying.

However, it shall be pertinent to note that the common dream of every Akwa Ibom citizen is good governance and not a political propaganda aimed at getting support from the poor populace, as such, 2019 elections should be considered as a serious business, whereby the candidates and elections shall be liken to the parable of the sower in Matthew 13. In the parable, the soil was the most important and determining factor to enhance the growth of the crops.

This implies that good soil is probably the single most critical element in assuring the health of a crop.

It is acceptable that there are other factors as well, but the single most important is the quality of the soil. Meaning that, everything from germination of a seed to overall growth rate and health of the crops depends on good soil.

Indeed, the growth and development of Akwa Ibom State depends critically upon the quality of the soil (leaders). As it is now, the state is experiencing a stunt growth and development due to the poor quality of the soil. We should not be afraid to admit that for ten years running, the state is growing on a rocky soil full of thorns (propaganda and media hypes), with nothing to show-forth as harvest (good governance).

We need to test the quality of the soil (leaders) before we deposit our seeds (votes) on it come 2019.
