U.S. Vice-Pres. Mike Pence’s connection with the evangelical segment of the Trump voting base is likely with regard to his strong Religious beliefs including his well-known opposition to rights for the LGBT population. As Pence’s religious preferences appear deep-rooted it may be difficult for him to keep his personal religious leanings separate from his role as an elected official charged with being a representative of all citizens. It is disturbing to see some elected officials routinely using their personal religious beliefs to influence government policies intended for the general population. It is also troubling to hear some outspoken advocates for peace and acceptance being the most intolerant of those that don’t share their religious views. Hillary Clinton once referred to Trump’s voting base as the basket of deplorables when the term ‘intolerable’ may have been more appropriate, especially for some of those narrow-focused evangelicals.
