Malaysia: Newspaper’s assistant manager jailed 30 months, fined RM100k over bribery

An Assistant Manager from an English-language daily newspaper has been slapped with a 30-month jail sentence and a fine of RM100,000 by the sessions court today.

M. Youganesparan, 55, who was with the daily’s editorial department, was sentenced after he was found guilty of receiving bribes of RM20,000 in May of last year.

He was accused of receiving the money from Mohd Emir Mavani Abdullah, also 54, as an inducement for an officer of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to close a case involving Mohd Emir.
