Tories agree deal with DUP to form minority government

The Conservatives have agreed a supply and confidence deal with the Northern Irish party after weeks of negotiations.

The Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) has agreed to Support Theresa May, which will provide her with enough votes to support the Queen’s speech later this week and form a Minority Government.

The deal, which could cause problems for the Northern Ireland peace process, will see the Conservatives drop a large portion of their manifesto and keep the pensions triple lock and winter fuel payments to pensioners.

The final agreement comes just days before May has to put her Queen’s speech to a vote in Parliament, where the Tories lost their slim majority after the snap election. The support of the 10 DUP MPs will allow her to pass legislation, including various changes to the law related to Brexit.
