Lovecraft stuff, week 2, 2017

Chapters 1-5 of Winter Tide by Ruthanna Emrys are available here, for those who like that sort of thing.

A Polish cosmic Horror game by a guy named Paweł Koźmiński is in the works, inspired by the manga art of Junji Ito (Uzumaki, etc.). Says Koźmiński: “I’ve been a huge fan of Junji Ito for years now. There is this unique charm in the way he mixes the cosmic horror, worthy of H. P. Lovecraft himself, and unsettling imagery that stays with you long after you’ve finished reading.”

The Lovecraft eZine: Prog metal landscapes await within the dream journal “Oath of Dagon.”

Locus Online: Paul Di Filippo reviews The Watcher at the Door: The Early Kuttner, Volume Two.

The Dice Tower: Bryan Drake takes a look at Arkham Horror: The Card Game, Mansions of Madness second edition, and Eldritch Horror (video review).

BoardGameGeekTV: Arkham Horror: The Card Game – GameNight!

Several announcements from Fantasy Flight Games: Explore the Pacific Ocean in Elder Sign: Omens of the Deep, The Dunwich Legacy expansion is now available for Arkham Horror: The Card Game, and the Beyond the Threshold expansion is available for Mansions of Madness.

Bruce Sterling on his new novella Pirate Utopia (from Geek’s Guide to the Galaxy): “There’s a lot of documentary evidence about Houdini’s involvement with American espionage, and they had good reason to hang out with him. I mean, he was a useful guy to know. And Houdini actually hired Lovecraft on occasion to do some ghostwriting for him. Houdini was carrying out a war against spiritualists and these superstitious table-knocker people who were trying to raise spirits, and Lovecraft also despised that kind of stuff. So the two of them actually had rather a lot to talk about, and besides, Lovecraft was so broke that he was willing to work cheap.”

Ars Technica reviews Pandemic: Reign of Cthulhu and finds it “a surprisingly solid board game” (why surprisingly?).

The SFFaudio Podcast #403 – AUDIOBOOK: “The Call of Cthulhu” by H.P. Lovecraft.

A new reading on YouTube of “Pickman’s Model” can be found here.

Anyone interested in almost 400 works of fandom inspired by the Cthulhu Mythos can go here.

PCGamesN: Red Hook Studios have released more information on the upcoming Radiant Mode for Darkest Dungeon (which should hopefully result in less grinding – plus, new monsters!).

The Unspeakable Oath: Old Ones Rising is a 280-page compilation of issues 18 through 21, and it will be out in April this year.
