New Braunfels Robbery: What You Should Do

An aggravated Robbery and car theft took place on Monday morning, March 21, in New Braunfels. The Stripes Convenience Store in the 1400 block of State Highway 46 South was robbed at around 1:30 AM and a stolen vehicle was reported less than 3 hours later.

Displaying a baton and possibly a firearm, 3 men with bandanas hiding their faces threatened the clerk and demanded cash. Nobody was harmed in the aggravated robbery, but the suspects did get away with an undisclosed amount of cash.

At 4 AM, the New Braunfels Police Department responded to the report of a stolen vehicle. The owner of the vehicle had received a call from the San Marcos Police Department, informing the owner that the department had found his vehicle in San Marcos with the 3 men accused of stealing it. The two police departments confirmed that the 3 men matched the description of the 3 men suspected of robbing the Stripes convenience Store.

The three men, between 18 and 21 years old, have been booked into the Guadalupe County Jail and each one of the suspects is being held on a $750,000 bail.

What to Do in a Robbery

Store robberies are scary for the employees and any people in the store. Here are some tips to keep in mind if you’re ever in a store that’s being robbed:

  • Don’t panic. I know it seems nearly impossible not to panic if you’re in a store that’s being robbed, but try to remain calm and cooperate with the robbers’ demands.
  • Remember, money and products can easily be replaced, but you cannot be. If the robbers demand money or your wallet/purse from you, immediately give them what they demand.
  • Speak only when the robbers ask you a question and answer with short responses.
  • Try to make a note of the robbers’ features (height, age, gender, ethnicity, and any other distinctive characteristics). However, don’t stare at the robbers and reveal that you are studying their features.
  • Remember anything the robbers touch to tell police officers later (for fingerprints).
  • Do not attempt to chase or follow the robbers if they leave.
  • When the robber leaves, call the police immediately and do not touch anything. Remain in the store unless the police direct you out, and give the officers as much information as you can provide.

Robbery vs. Burglary

A robbery involves using violence to coerce a victim to give up property, like the robbers in New Braunfels threatening the clerk with a baton and possibly a firearm.

A Burglary occurs when a person breaks into a building or other piece of property with the intent to commit a crime like theft. The 3 suspects in New Braunfels also committed burglary, breaking into and stealing a person’s car.
