According to Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, the war on terror will require "years and years of vigilance." The truth is, it will never be over. Not in our lifetimes, not in our great-great-grandchildren's lifetimes.
Terrorism is rooted in human behavior and emotionalism. Just as there will always be people who commit crimes, there will always be those who will commit acts of terrorism.
Despite the Civil Rights Act; despite years of education on the subject, there are still those who are prejudiced. Terrorism is no different.
While we may not have considered ourselves actively involved in any war on terrorism until recently, it has always existed. Make no mistake. However things turn out in the Middle East, we will never be rid of terrorism.
