Another road will be closed for a bit

As if there isn't enough street closures because of Development in the Grove, that new office building being built next to Greenstreet by Optimum Development is closing one lane of traffic on Main Highway for two weeks. Unfortunately, they had all summer to do this when traffic is slow, but now that schools are in session and traffic increases, the street will be closed. Terrible timing on Optimum's part.

Southbound traffic along Main Highway between Commodore Plaza and Charles Avenue will be detoured down Commodore and Grand Avenue.

Northbound traffic along Main Highway will not be impacted.

Ransom Everglades, the closest school does not seem to be amused with this latest development. They sent out a terse letter to students and parents. This is part of the letter which explains the predicament:

"Please know the lane closure is beyond the control of Ransom Everglades, and the school received no prior notice.

"Any questions or concerns you have about the closure should be directed to Raquel Regalado, the Director of Operations for Optimum Development – the company constructing the office building between the Greenstreet Cafe and Coconut Grove Playhouse. She can be reached at (and they give here personal cell phone number here, which I won't publish)."

So private developments have commandeered city streets in the Center Grove - Oak Street for the garage turned office building, Virginia for CocoWalk and now Main Highway for Optimum Development. And Mary Street is blocked almost daily next to the Terra Group's garage project, because Terra is also blocking Mary for the bank lot project.

In the North Grove, the Fairchild Grove development has local neighborhood streets blocked daily, all sorts of heavy equipment block neighbors from getting in and out of the neighborhood. On the other side the Residences of Vizcaya townhouses are blocking another street, at times they are closed for a week or two at a time. It's a never-ending project there.
