Good news/bad news about the sidewalks

Good News:

After many years of neglect, placing pedestrians in considerable danger, stubbed toes, sprained ankle and wrists, countless personal injury lawsuits, countless financial settlements, we are finally getting around to repairing our brick pavers sidewalks.

 Bad News:

That it is shameful it took so long to fix our Coconut Grove sidewalks. Coral Gables, City of South Miami, Key Biscayne, Miami Beach or even Brickell would not have tolerated this dangerous and unsightly situation for all these many years.

How does that adage go about forgetting history and repeating the same mistake over again and hoping for better results? Perhaps installing thousands of new bricks with the potential of future breakage is not the best solution. Some communities such as Miami Beach, Coral Gables and Key Biscayne have wisely chosen to install coquina sidewalks which are concrete embedded with seashells. They are a significantly lower cost, seldom crack or place pedestrians in danger and require little maintenance.
