Transfer Video from Camcoder to Computer

Transferring video from your camcorder to your Computer is straight forward but sometimes they get complicated with the terms. Below is an example for anon Elura 100 camcoder.

"...Just connect your computer to your camcorder's IEEE 1394 DV terminal with a DV cable..."
You should definitely use FireWire (1394) to transfer the video to the PC. When you are using FireWire transfer, the computer copies the video byte-for-byte, so you never have to worry about lipsync problems or dropped frames. You will need: A FireWire cable with the right connectors for your Camcorder and PC A PC with a FireWire connection Windows Movie Maker Software Download it here You should download Windows Movie Maker from the link I gave you above. The website provides you with the download and how to use the software. Movie Maker will handle the capture, editing, and conversion. FireWire capture is really cool -- the PC will control your camcorder - it can rewind, FF, play and capture the video, by remote control, over the FireWire cable. By the way, FireWire brings video into your computer in DV format -- the file sizes are big. You'll need to compress them into another format, such as Windows Media. Highest quality Windows Media is about 2 Mbits/sec, but you can squeeze the video down to 100 kbit/sec (horrible quality) if you want. Try to avoid buying cables from places like Best Buy because they will over charge you. Go here to get decent price on cables. What if your computer doesn't have any Firewire device or 6pin hole waiting there? Where can you get that device? Well, if you have a computer, get the Controller PCI Card and if you have laptop get PCMCIA Card. Be careful because most Firewire cards come with a cable, so check before you buy a separate cable. If you don't want to open the pc to install a Firewire card (not difficult but intimidating to some people) you could go a different route with a box from ADS Technologies that connects to the camera and then to the pc via a USB cable. There are also free-standing DVD burners from companies like Sony where you hook up the camera and the DVD is burned with no computer required.
