Abortion is Wrong

With a new Supreme Court Justice soon to be appointed by President Trump on July 9th and then possibly confirmed in the coming fall, there has been concern among the Pro-Choice Community that the historic Roe v. Wade decision will be overturned. I find it useful to remind people that if Roe v. Wade should be overturned then the issue of Abortion will simply devolve back to the state government. However, I would rather discuss the ethical, philosophical, and moral debate that surrounds abortion, instead of the politics of abortion.
My position is that abortion should be illegal, with three exceptions; if the mother could die during birth, if the mother is raped, or in the case of incest.
An abortion committed on any other grounds is murder, and for people to masquerade abortion a liberation of women is sickening. I think -and hope- generations from now humanity will look upon abortion during this era in the way people look upon slavery in 2018: immoral and illegal.
One Argument I have often heard and probably the most convincing argument for abortion to be legal, although that does not say much, is that the quality of life of the child and family will be extremely poor if the child is born.
I disagree with this argument because the quality of life of any child born in the U.S. in 2018 is the best possible situation any child could ask for throughout human history. This is truly the best time for humans to be alive and for someone else to decide the fate of another person and deprive them an opportunity to life is so incredibly thoughtless.
Another argument is the “My Body, My Choice” Argument. This is my least favorite argument. Moral is moral, right is right, and wrong is wrong, regardless of who you are. Just because you give birth to a child does not give you the right to murder that child.
A third argument is that life does not begin at conception and the child can't feel pain until 20 weeks into pregnancy. So then I would ask: why isn't abortion illegal after 20 weeks? And why does it even matter? Pain is irrelevant when the agent dies anyway. The fact of the matter is that there is the process of pregnancy and birth begins at conception and the science does not support this argument.

71% of Americans do not want Roe v. Wade to be overturned. However, I think the largest problem with how abortion is seen by Americans, is how Americans view sex. In today’s culture sex is seen as transactional. This is easily observed by listening to any popular song, flipping on the TV for an hour, or simply people-watching on a college campus during the weekend. If sex is treated as transactional and simply for pleasure, then people do not need to exercise caution or self-control when dealing with sex. Without exercising caution or self-control then mistakes are more common. When mistakes happen, the “quality of life” arguments are born because they are a convenient justification for people to rid themselves of their problems. In this case the problem that people rid themselves of is a human life. Abortion is a sick rationalization for people who screw up and don’t take responsibility for their own actions.
There is absolutely no excuse for abortion outside of the three circumstances that I laid out earlier and any justification for it is lazy and thoughtless.
