The Tamale chapter of the Ghana Society of Radiographers has, with immediate effect, withdrawn out-patient services from the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) pending the arrest and prosecution of some irate youth who invaded the facility on Monday.

The Chief Executive officer, Dr. David Akolblia, was chased out of his office by a youth group believed to be members pro-NPP vigilante group, Kandahar Boys.

The group locked up his office and demanded his dismissal, claiming he has caused “mismanagement crisis” in the facility.

The police later intervened to restore calm.

The Northern Regional Security Council led by the Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed, however, led Dr. Kolbila to his office Tuesday.

On opening the office, the Regional Minister condemned the action of the youth and assured staff of the hospital the police will investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to book.

‘Disgusting invasion’

Medical personnel including nurses and doctors were not satisfied with the proffered outline to solving the problem so they withdrew their services.

The latest to join the strike in solidarity with the CEO is the radiographers of the facility who described the situation as “disgusting invasion”.

They are therefore demanding the following:

• The immediate arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators and their collaborators to serve as a deterrent to others who may want to consider similar actions in the future.
• The perpetrators must render an unqualified and unequivocal apology to the CEO, staff and patients of the hospital.
• The setting up of a police post in the hospital to prevent future occurrences of this lawlessness
