Living Dead Prepper has mentioned a few times that there has been a recent trend of the 1% preppers that spend millions of dollars to set up survival bunkers out in the middle of nowhere.  Also, shows like Doomsday Preppers show people spending their life savings on disaster prep.  For those of us with average or low income, the above could be discouraging for those wanting to start prepping.  Apartment Prepper, in their article Money Mondays: Preps You Can Afford Even if You’re Low in Cash – Apartment Prepper gives the budget prepper hope by listing 10 emergency supplies that the budget prepper can acquire:

Water:  Unless you live in Flint, Michigan, your towns drinking water is going to be potable.  So, if you are on a tight budget freeze your water in 2 liter soda bottles.

Little Bit At A Time: You can buy your emergency food supplies and other disaster prep gear incrementally.  Of course, you just need to make sure that what you buy has a long shelf life:

Set aside a couple of dollars on every shopping trip and buy two or three items that are ready to eat or easy to prepare.  Buy items with a coupon and when they go on sale.  Just make sure to buy only what your family eats. Flashlight and Batteries:

Bleach: Bleach is an invaluable multi-purpose survival tool.

Thoughts

The only thing wrong with this article is that it destroys the, “I have no money,” excuse for disaster prep. No matter your budget; nearly anyone can start planning for disaster. Granted, as you likely cannot afford a year’s worth of food, if the SHTF you’ll be in trouble But, most disasters will not last more than a few days. So, all you may need is a few days worth of emergency supplies. So, you just need to start prepping soon, and in a few months time, you’ll have enough items for your 72 hour bag.
