Lauren and Rubinsky met at Juicy Couture in NYC. They worked together since October 2012. However, it wasn’t until February 2013, at a going away party for one of their coworkers, that they shared more than 5 words! This led to countless phone calls, text messages and dates in NYC over the next few months. Then on May 29, 2013, in Bryant Park, Rubinsky asked Lauren to be his girlfriend and they’ve been inseparable ever since.
Rubinsky: ” Before she graduated college, Lauren interned at a Bridal salon–she was a fashion merchandising major. When she was left alone, she’d try on the gowns for fun and would always tell me about it. However, there was this one day where she tried on a gown and sent me a picture. From that moment, I knew I wanted to see her in a bridal gown walking down the aisle towards me!
Lauren: “I knew Rubin was the one the first time I ever saw him with a baby. I was over his house, and his grandmother was babysitting. She stepped out for a minute and left the baby sleeping, but woke up and immediately started crying. Rubin handled her like a pro! I literally had no idea what to do, but I knew right then and there that I wanted to have a family with him one day!
Being a police officer, Rubinsky had to miss plenty of special events and holidays. In fact, his first day on the job was the NYE ball drop in Times Square. That’s one holiday they never celebrated together! And so, on December 31st, 2016, when Lauren found out he would be home before midnight and they would get to share a midnight kiss for the first time ever, she went all out decorating their apartment, making hors-d’oeuvres and creating a small cocktail party for two. Little did she know what was about to happen. (Rubinsky played it SUPER cool all night!) At exactly 12 am after their New Year’s kiss and failed attempts to pop a confetti canon, Rubinsky pulled a small box from inside his NYE hat, and said, “I want to start this year off right…” (Lauren’s unsure of what he said after that, and although he claims he got on one knee, she can’t
remember that either because naturally, she was extremely excited and emotional).
Rubinsky: “Her sense of humor.”
Lauren: “The fact that I always have to tell him to ‘get out of my brain’ because he always knows what I’m going to say.”
Rubinsky: “When she does funny dances as she’s getting ready.”
Lauren: “When he sings “I Have Nothing” by Whitney Houston at the top of his lungs when we’re driving.”
Rubinsky: “Finally being able to call her my wife.”
Lauren: “Our first dance.”
