hmmm....

An intelligent Leader but with a questionable character or an averagely smart leader with genuinely good intentions?

I would rather have the latter... The leader with a questionable character may use his intelligence to make a fool out of us all. Remember that he is intelligent, cunning and may use his gift to hide his wrongdoings. Remember Marcos?

A leader who is not as intelligent but who ge
nuinely wants to serve the people is more reliable. Why? Because intelligence is not everything. As the famous tagalog quote goes: "Pag ayaw maraming dahilan, pag-gusto maraming paraan." If a change for the better is truly what the leader wants, no matter what, he will find a way to make it happen even if it will take years...

And if unfortunately he gets tempted to do something wrong and illegal then he won't be able to 'outsmart' everyone. :)

Thought about this after listening to the SONA with a chorus of negative comments on the background. Everyone is free to give their own thoughts on the matter but I think we should also be a little more considerate to this nation's leader. His progress may have disappointed you, you may say you haven't really felt the progress he was talking about or it's all too slow but remind yourself that a decade of wrongdoings cannot be undone in a single term. I don't even think this president can solve the country's problem during his term but I think it is a good sign that he made an effort to do so and did the right steps towards a better governance.

Have you tried being a leader to a diverse group of people? In school? In your workplace? Have you tried having a groupmate who was very difficult to deal with because he is always opposed to everyone's opinion but fails to contribute his own? Being a president is a hundred times more difficult than that. Imagine dealing with hundred thousands of difficult people, mostly naysayers. If you cannot imagine that then you really haven't tried being a leader. Try being one now in your school or your workplace and you'll see what I mean. :)
