God doesn't mind a couple of questions here and there, right?

Tags: bible evil
My boyfriend made me read these Bible verses earlier and I can't stop thinking about them.I have questions and I need answers.

1 Peter 3: 8-12

Suffering for Doing Good
8 Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble. 9 Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. 10 For,
   “Whoever would love life
   and see good days
must keep their tongue from evil
and their lips from deceitful speech.
11 They must turn from evil and do good;
they must seek peace and pursue it.
12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous
and his ears are attentive to their prayer,
but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”

and here are my questions:
  • If evil was to be repaid with blessing, why did God have to drown those sinful people during Noah's time?
  • Why did He have to destroy that sinful city called Sodom?
  • There were so many people who had done wrong in the Bible stories.Sins were like curses passed on from generation to generation and those who committed them were punished by God;however, I've also read that forgiveness should be continuous and as quoted from the Bible, should be done ''seventy-seven times''. So why were Adam and Eve punished right away? Why weren't they given a second chance?
I know my questions seem to take the Bible stories literally but they just seem that way. I know that it's better that I look at them in a figurative manner but that point of view is also screwing my head up. What were the original authors of the Bible trying to tell us through these stories? Are some ideas really conflicting like how I perceived them to be or is it me who is just too slow to keep up with my fellow Catholics? I asked those questions to my partner but he has no answers too. He told me to ask a priest or a minister.

To the Catholic someone who is reading this now, don't get me wrong. Don't attack me with daggers right away. I'm not being a heretic here just because I have questions with regards to our Bible. I don't think God minds a couple of questions here and there. I believe that's one of the freebies of having freewill.
