3 Ways Commercial Drones Make Farming More Profitable

Commercial Drones are creating new ways for farmers to optimize their operations, and prevent costly crop damage from occurring. While commercial farming has been moving towards automation for many years, it is only in the last few that drones have been able to provide advantages that are indispensable to today’s large-scale agricultural operations.

While aerial imaging has been used for decades on farms, today drones offer a level of affordability and access that just can’t be matched by a manned aircraft. The idea that any farm could afford to do hyperspectral (NDVI) imaging on a daily basis with a manned aircraft is laughable, but drones make that possibility a reality.

Here at MetroUAV, we know aerial imagery, and we got into the world of drone-based imaging because we know how much value they can offer a wide variety of agricultural operations. Here are a few of the advantages that our commercial uav’s (drones) can provide your farm, but don’t think for a second that this is an exhaustive list of the changes that drones are creating. We also offer commercial drone sales now, see the DJI Matric 200 Series or the DJI AGRAS MG-1S

Today drones are ushering a new era of economic efficiency, and we want your farm to take full advantage of these changes. Michigan Aerial Photography has never been easier to contract, so think about how we can help you.

Advantage ONE Unprecedented Access

Commercial drones can do just about anything a manned aircraft could, and a whole lot more. The imaging technology that exists today is also a big advantage that drones take utilize, as hyperspectral imaging will give you a new view of your fields that can reveal some things that would be invisible to standard wavelengths.

When you’re farming 1,000 acres, and there is a potential problem developing right in the middle of your fields, just getting to it for an inspection would take hours. With drones spotting a problem is a snap, and you can be looking at your crops within a minute or two.

Once the drones are hovering a few inches away from the plants that are showing signs of stress, taking a few photos to share online is easy. In less than ten minutes you can have your images in front of experts so that any economic loss can be prevented if possible.

Advantage TWO Operational Efficiency

Large scale farming comes with some inherent economic risks, so making sure your farm is running as efficiently as possible is a must. Commercial drone imaging will help you to ensure that everything is working correctly, and there aren’t any plagues lurking around the corner.

One example of the difference that drones are making is in the fight against apple scab. Apple orchards in the northeastern United States are always struggling to control this fungal infection, as a scabby apple has little commercial value. When apple scab starts off in an orchard, it can be next to impossible to detect until it is too late.

Next generation drone imaging technology is being developed that will spot apple scab while-while it is still able to be contained, and eliminated via spraying. The spray process can also be done by other kinds of drones, which means that the entire apple scab problem could be managed from a smartphone.

The same thing applies to irrigation inspections. Drones don’t have enormous costs associated with their use, so making daily inspections isn’t a bad idea if your fields are showing heat stress. The loss that your business could incur from withered crops is much higher than drone inspections, and taking advantage of their capabilities is a smart move. The DJI AGRAS MG-1S is the best agriculture commercial drone for sale.

Advantage THREE Available Anywhere

Commercial UAV’s (drones) provide easy access to just about any area, and the data they create is all digital. This means that sharing images from our inspections couldn’t be easier. If you are working with a farming conglomerate, or need to be able to share pictures of the fields with partners, drones based inspections are a perfect fit for your needs.

Within a day of the inspections, you will be able to access all of the images via a specially made website, and all you have to do is share the information with any interested party. There isn’t any parallel to this easy of connectivity in the analog world, and drones sit at the heart of it all.
