• Comes with training flags that you place above ground that your dog can see as visual aids for the boundary you set
• The collar is designed for dogs over 8 lb. with neck sizes from 6 to 26 inches
• The collar is waterproof
• The collar features 4 levels of static correction plus a tone-only mode for training
• The collar takes a RFA-67 battery and has a 1-2 month expected battery life 
• The collar has a low battery indicator

Drawbacks

• Short battery life on the collar
• No vibration only training option
• Collars aren’t really for extra large dogs over say 90-100lbs
• Fence won’t stop your dog if they sprint and really really want to get through it, but that’s true of any electric dog fence 
• The wire is 20 gauge wire – it’s not as thick as say for example 14 gauge wire you can get standard with other electric dog fences like the eXtreme fence for example
• The system can sometimes be inconsistent for some people in it’s functioning – the transmitter and the collar devices – but if you contact PetSafe within the warranty period they are generally good to deal with and help you out
• Warranty only valid when purchasing through an authorised retailer – check the warranty is valid when purchasing through anyone but PetSafe

Overall

• Good as a basic type pet containment system that is affordable, but has some noticeable drawbacks that you won’t get with more expensive systems such as system inconsistency and the absence of certain features

What Is The PetSafe Basic In Ground Fence Designed For?

The standard system is intended to keep dogs larger than 8lbs with a neck size of between 6 to 26 inches inside up to 1/3 of an acre of land.

It is expandable though up to 5 acres and several dogs.

How Does The PetSafe Basic In Ground Dog Fence System Work?

PetSafe give you a set up and operation guide which you should follow. But, as a general guide:

• You plan out where the fence will go, and the transmitter (you need to have a power source nearby)
• You lay out the wire above ground and test the system and collars are working
• You dig the wire trenches and lay the wire and backfill
• You set the static level, or set the system to tone only
• You put in the training flags above ground so your dog can see where the boundary is and put the collar/s on your dog/s
• As your dog approaches the boundary and gets to the ‘warning zone’, the collar should beep to warn them they are getting too close to where they shouldn’t be. In static mode, the collar delivers static stimulation if they keep going towards the boundary
• The training period should be roughly 2 weeks for your dog to learn where the boundary is
• Once your dog learns where the boundary is, some people choose to remove the collar until or if re-training is required
