Belinda Says Hay: “Biggest Mistake Fixed With Email”

Hello. It’s Belinda.

I have a confession.

When I started this spokesrabbit job it felt odd the first week or two. Not only because I had no idea what I was doing. But because I didn’t know if anyone was paying attention.

You write your blog and your agent sends it out on Sunday. Maybe people are reading it, maybe not. You hope they are because the boss is watching the numbers, if you know what I mean.

My Roommate could tell I was worried. One day out of nowhere she suggested that I put “Easter eggs” in these blog posts.

“You know, Belinda. That’s the little jokes and cartoons they hide in video games.”

I was so offended that I didn’t eat for three hours. Even when she opened a new box of orchard hay right in front of me, and made a big fuss about the smell. I just stared from the nap corner.

Easter eggs. Are we really going to go there? That was the moment I decided that taking this job was the biggest mistake of my life.

But then a few days later, everything changed. I found out that rabbits and their roommates were sending emails to the company. About me.

It started with a very nice white rabbit named Tara. She asked if we might be sisters. Then a trio named Espresso, Latte and Charlie said hi. And so on.

The messages just kept coming. Some with photos, some without. Long emails with plenty of customer intelligence I could share with the boss. Sometimes just a PS on a message about something else, a change order or such, that said, “Tell Belinda I love her blog.”

Since I don’t have my own email account—and may never have one, what with the fallout from me hacking into the Top 10 Cuties—Jessica in customer service gets these emails first. She sends them to my roommate. After that it’s anyone’s guess when I will see them. Could be minutes later or hours.

After “the incident” they changed the system password, so I can’t get into the server and I don’t dare try. So I can’t answer these messages on my own.

But for now, I would like to thank Tomasz, Carolyn P. and Jill E. for telling Small Pet Select not to fire me. Your emails might have been the difference between hay or nay.

To Nancy and your sister Donna, thank you for sending a special hug and kiss to me. My roommate gave me a smooch on the top of my head and scratched my shoulders for five minutes. Not a bad way to start the morning.

Bella, thank you for sending photos of hay. You mentioned that you tried the sampler box and you like oat best and third cutting second. You have excellent taste. Oat and “third-c” are my go-to afternoon hays.

You asked what my favorites are and I have to be careful because of my position with the company. But I have been known to knock down five-foot barricades to reach the alfalfa.

My roommate says it’s for sick bunnies or special occasions but Josh from the warehouse sent a big box specifically to me. I can read a label.

So for me it’s alfalfa first and orchard hay second. But I like variety and sometimes it just depends on my mood and the pairings.

There are so many more. That’s all I can remember for now.

I hope you see this, Bella and Tomasz. And Carolyn P. and Jill E. and the sisters.

And to everyone else, thank you so much for your messages. I am reading them all—and so is the boss.

Sincerely,

Belinda
