The Swdish insurance company Sveland Djurförsäkringar had a brilliant idea by creating Kattis, a social app that’s kind of like Tinder for homeless cats in shelters all across Sweden.

We looked at it and thought wouldn’t it be brilliant if we had this kind of network in all countries? All of us that ever thought about adopting a kitten most likely have been in similar situations… trying to find a potential new family member is not easy as you have to look at the individual shelter websites to see if there is a feline friend that could match to your existing family. Now if you centralised this for cats all across a country like Kattis is doing… that would be brilliant!!!

Tinder for Homeless Cats is a Success in Sweden

There are around 100 Cat Shelters in Sweden and most of them are overcrowded. One main problem is that it’s hard for the cat shelters to find new adopters, especially for the older cats. But now there’s a new possibility for the homeless cats. The insurance company Sveland Djurförsäkringar has released a Tinder for homeless cats – and it’s making a success.

Kattis is a new Swedish digital service that brings homeless cats from different cat shelters in Sweden into one digital platform – Kattis.net. Today there are about 100 different cat shelters in Sweden, all of which have their own ways of finding adopters. Kattis was released last week in Sweden and is making a real buzz in the media. The service has already generated hundreds of new potential adopters for the cats.

Kattis is an initiative from the animal insurance company Sveland Djurförsäkringar and is part of their ongoing support for the cat shelters.

Kattis is much like a “Tinder” for homeless cats, says Henrik Harej, Marketing Manager at Sveland Djurförsäkringar. You swipe through the cats and when you find a cat you like, you can contact the cat’s shelter.

A new survey from Sveland Djurförsäkringar shows that Sweden’s cat shelters are overcrowded and this year alone they have been forced to say no to over 1740 cats.

By digitizing the cat finding process in a better way, we believe we can attract more people to adopt a homeless cat, says Henrik Harej, Marketing Manager at Sveland Djurförsäkringar.

Kattis is a pilot project aimed at reducing the number of homeless cats in Sweden. The first test is to see how it is received by both people looking for cats and the cat shelters. The service is web-based but is scheduled to be released as an app for iPhone and Android.

Right now there are hundreds of homeless cats available for adoption in Kattis.
