Things to Do

Every link on this page I have used and found to be very useful.

Lets Go Out With the Children

A good site with lots of outdoor activities and a lot you can do for free. http://www.letsgowiththechildren.co.uk/

Also includes some fun inside activities like children film reviews, and who doesn’t like a good adventure film with your rascal.  I use this site a lot and would definitely recommend it.

Day Out With the Kids

This is a great site what has always worked for me in coming up with good ideas of things to get out and do.  Not all are outdoors but there are some good activity based fun to get you and the rascals out of the house. http://www.dayoutwiththekids.co.uk/

It’s also good because it divided into different areas of the country so you do only get local suggestions meaning that if your limited for time or limited in how far you can travel you can stay local.

What to do with the Kids

Quite a lot of flashy banners and lots going on and I wouldn’t say as good as other sites but has some good discounts and suggestions for theme parks, and most rascals like theme parks. http://www.whattodowiththekids.co.uk/

Castle Xplorer

All rascals love a castle, whether they’re a prince or a princess and this site shows you the location of every castle in the UK.  You’ll be surprised at how many there are near to you.

Two essential places to check out are:

English Heritage

Children are free with English Heritage so it really is worth joining to get the benefit of their great sites , and there will be plenty of hidden gems near you.

http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/

The fantastic Days Out Section and Priorities map is the place to start.  Castles, Churches and much more it is a great place for finding things to do.

National Trust

The National Trust are responsible for protecting some of our greatest outdoor spaces.

http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/

Some of the homes and gardens are great to explore.  Certainly worth joining to get the most from some of the grandest, oldest and finest areas in the UK.

Great Walks for Kids

The Financial Times ran a great article last year on things to do:

http://www.ft.com/cms/s/2/f370b9c2-395a-11df-8970-00144feabdc0.html#axzz1doonjcVG

and Go for a Walk is always packed full of information: http://www.go4awalk.com/

A few of my favourite places are Stratford upon Avon: http://www.visitstratforduponavon.co.uk/

The fantastic Malvern Hills:

Click on visiting the hills.

And the Peak District:

http://www.peakdistrict.gov.uk/

Kinder Scout in the Peaks is the highest point and also a great walk with kids.  If you find it a bit tough going by the river then you can always turn back but you’ll already have had a great walk by then.

There are 100,000s of possible days out in the UK.  We are blessed with some of the most diverse landscapes , from the rolling flatlands of Lincolnshire and coasts of Norfolk, to the mountains of the Cairn Gorms, Lakes and Snowdonia.

From the big cities of Birmingham, Manchester and London your not far away from great hills and forests or sprawling parks and if you don’t like the beach or the greenery then we also have some of the greatest towns, cities and villages to enjoy.

From Stratford to Cambridge to York to Kendal we have some great places and lots for children to do.

I will continue to update this page with ideas and thoughts and also our Blog but please add to the Blog and email me your suggestions and great days out to [email protected] and I will pass on.

If you’re looking to get away in the UK then I would recommend www.ukcampsite.co.uk as a great camp site review site and we’ve often used http://www.alanrogers.com/ when camping abroad.

Enjoy the outdoors.

Lisa.

I will definetly add a more specific winter blog in the next week or so in regards to where to make the best of the coming winter weather.
