Make Your Own Pilgrim Hat

Celebrate our proud Thanksgiving tradition by having your children or students make their own Pilgrim Hat.

MATERIALS USED FOR THIS PROJECT:

Hygloss Make-Your-Own Hat

Hygloss Bright Tag

Scissors

Glue

STEP ONE:

Cut your Hygloss Bright Tag! Place a piece of black Hygloss Bright Tag under the Hygloss Make-Your-Own Hat. Measure the outline of the top of the hat and cut a piece to fit the front of your hat.

You may use Hygloss Bright Sheets or black construction paper for this step. We suggest Hygloss Bright Tag because it is a thicker cardstock and holds up a little better for the hat.

STEP TWO:

Carefully apply a light pattern of glue to the Hygloss Make-Your-Own Hat and apply your Hygloss Bright Tag to the front of your hat.

STEP THREE:

This is an important part! Cut the top of the hat at an angle so that it makes a Trapeze shape toward the top (top of the hat is not as wide as the base)

Trim the top of the hat to make it a little shorter overall. See provided finished product example for reference.

STEP FOUR:

Take the second piece of Hygloss Bright Tag to measure and cut the brim of your pilgrim hat. Once you are satisfied with the overall height and length of the brim, lightly apply a patter of glue to the front of the Hygloss Make-Your-Own Hat and apply light pressure to adhere.

STEP FIVE:

Using a piece of Yellow Hygloss Bright Tag or yellow construction paper, draw the size and shape of your hat’s buckle using a pencil

Cut out your buckle and apply a light pattern of glue to the back of your yellow Bright Tag and apply to the front of your hat. You’re all done!

Now you are celebrating one of our most treasured national holidays in style!
