Tired of using products that contain harmful chemicals when cleaning your home?

Then this all natural, multi-purpose cleaner is just what you’re looking for!

Many products that we have come accustomed to using on a regular basis are unhealthy to use. They can be unhealthy to your children, your pets and can affect your overall health. Many of your favorite Cleaning products are also very damaging to the environment, and are not eco-friendly.

Harsh cleaning products

There are so many products on the market that are unhealthy and others that are downright unsafe to use. Many of the products that we are use to using and that we remember our parents using can have negative lasting effects on our health. So much so , that here in California, many of the commonly used cleaning products that were approved to use in licensed child care centers are no longer approved. Others can only be used with the strictest of guidelines on how and when to use them. The bottom line is, many commercial products that we use on a regular basis can be detrimental to our health, and should not be used in our homes and around our families.

Alternative to harmful cleaning products-make your own

I can admit it. I have been guilty of using many commercial cleaning products that I know can be unhealthy if used. It was a matter of convenience, it was easier to just buy the products instead of researching and making my own products. Over the past few months, I have really started getting in to more DIY and home made products. The benefits of making some of my own products outweigh the cons of buying products that can be harmful to my family.  A good way of eliminating the chance of exposure to harmful chemicals is to make your own cleaning products. Trust me, it is so simple and easy; easier than I thought it would be!

DIY all natural, multi-purpose cleaner with essential oils

This simple, easy to make multi-purpose cleaning solution will be the answer to all of your cleaning problems!

Here are the supplies that you will need to make your cleaning solution:

You’ll need:

  • a glass spray bottle

I got this two pack of glass bottles and they are amazing! You want to use a glass spray bottle, as opposed to a plastic one, since Essential Oils keep their potency in glass bottles. They become less effective in plastic containers.

  • 1 cup of white vinegar

Vinegar makes for a great cleaner due to it’s acidity level. It can be used to help cut through grease, grime, mineral deposits and soap scum.  You should always use vinegar as a diluted solution, since the acidity level can be damaging to certain surfaces.

  • 1 cup of water

It found that it is best to use filtered or bottled water when making your cleaning solution. You want to keep it as natural as possible. Tap water can contain minerals and may not be best to use in your cleaner.

  • your choice of essential oils

There are so many essential oils to choose from for your cleaning solution. I personally use doTERRA essential oils on a regular basis, and decided that I would use two of my FAVORITE oils! I decided that lemon essential oil and lavender essential oil would work best. There are many benefits to using lemon and lavender essential oils. Lemon has many benefits and uses, and can be used as a natural purifying agent. Lavender not only has an amazing aroma, but also helps spread feeling of calm when used throughout the house. These two essential oils make for a great combination for a cleaning solution!

There are many other essential oil combinations that will work for a cleaning solution, so I encourage you to experiment with some of your favorites. You can check out a list of other essential oils that would work well for cleaning later in the post.

Here are the steps to making your own all natural multi-purpose cleaner!

Step 1:

Get your glass water bottle and add the 1 cup of water to it.

Step 2:

Add 1 cup of vinegar to the water in your glass bottle.

Step 3:

Add your choice of essential oils to your water & vinegar mixture in your glass bottle. I started with Lemon essential oil. I added about 30 drops of the essential oils to my bottle. Obviously you can add more or less to your cleaning solution, depending on your preference. 30 drops is a good to start off with.

Step 4:

Next I added in the Lavender essential oil. I added around 15 drops of lavender oil to my solution. Again, depending on what you prefer, you could always add more or less lavender to your cleaner. It really just depends on personal preference.

Step 5:

Replace the sprayer and shake up your cleaning solution. You now have your own all natural, multi-purpose cleaner! Be sure to shake up your solution before every use, so that all of the ingredients will disperse evenly when using.

Using your all natural, multi-purpose cleaner

I use this cleaner to clean my stove, granite counter tops, bathrooms walls, doors, and showers and sinks. Since it is a multi-purpose cleaner, it can be used in a variety of ways. This cleaner is my new favorite to use around the house for all types of cleaning needs!

10 additional essential oils that can be used for cleaning

In addition to the essential oils listed above, here is a list of additional essential oils that you can use in your cleaning solution. They are mainly useful for their cleansing and purifying agent, which is important for your cleaning solution.

1. Wild Orange

2. Peppermint

3. Tangerine

4. Melaleuca

5. Lime

6. Grapefruit

7. Arborvitae

8. Citrus Bliss

9. Purify

10. OnGuard

To wrap up

I am slowly making the small changes necessary to remove harmful products and items from our home. Switching out many of the products to healthier products is easier than I thought it would be. In the end, it is worth the extra time to make a home made product than using products that can be harmful to my family or pets.
