6 Creative Family Activities for Spring

From the first sprouts of green to the whispers of warm breezes blowing, Spring is always welcome. Whether you live in a 4 season state or somewhere warm year round, spring brings the promise of new growth, new beginnings, outdoor adventures and the promise of summer.

After a long few months of cold weather, check out these ideas for your crew.

6 creative family activities for spring:

Go Geocaching

Geocaching is a fresh new update to treasure hunting. In this version, you and your Family use GPS coordinates to locate hidden containers or geocaches. Often found in parks and outdoor recreation areas, there are thousands of these hidden treasures across the nation. Talk about a fun family idea to get out and move, and with a purpose.

Pseudo-Camping

Depending on your location, it may be a bit early to camp on the ground; however, pseudo- camping is always an option and takes far less work. Pack up some tinfoil wrapped dinner packets, camping chairs, ingredients for s’mores and head out. You can do this in your backyard or at an actual campground. Find a great spot, build a fire–if your area allows– and enjoy the evening telling campfire tales.

When we lived in city limits, we made s’mores inside the microwave and sat around a circle telling stories. Our children still had a blast.

Scavenger Hunts

Not to be confused with geocaching, come up with a list of items to find and send the kids with their collection receptacles. Savenger hunts can be a way to watch your children and laugh at the competition, or as parents, join in the fun. Make it a nature scavenger hunt searching for signs of spring or a letter hunt searching for items starting with different letters of the alphabet.

Chalk mural art

Chalk art is not just for kids, seriously, have you seen some of the amazing 3D recreations of classic art? Want to encourage some friendly competition? Block off a sidewalk square for each family member and use individual awards such as best use of color, happiest, most astounding, etc. Teens and adults alike should be able to join in this one with enthusiasm.

Shaving Cream Baseball

This one is not clean fun–depending on how you look at it–but it may require a bath afterward. Take a whiffle ball and fill with shaving cream, then, being that it is baseball season, practice hitting and running. The fun, of course, is in watching this happen with the force of hitting the ball making quite the explosion.

Make some Panoramic Eggs

Making panoramic eggs is a fun indoor craft, creating spring scenes inside of a sugar egg. These can be eaten or displayed with complex and fun scenes. From spring animals to flowers, you can express the creativity of your family.

Make the most of this season of fresh and new by creating some fantastic memories with your family.
