Celebrating Winter Solstice

Today we are celebrating Winter Solstice, a celebration also known as 'Dongzhi'  to the Chinese. It is part of the important celebration in the Chinese calendar. It is usually falls on December before Christmas.

When I'm younger, I was very excited to know the arrival of Winter Solstice as we will be opening presents soon!
Cooking of glutinous ball

Soon I realised that Winter Solstice is also time for family gathering and eating 'Tan Yuan', balls of glutinous rice that symbolizes reunion.  Nowadays, the glutonious ball comes in different variety of different sizes and some creative one shaped as fishes ans bears. Definately a popular choice for kids.

In order for my girls to continue with the tradition, we have them making the glutinous ball every year and obviously they loved it.

Happy Winter Solstice to all~
