Cottonseed cake meal is a kind of pig feed raw materials of which contains s toxic matter---gossypol in Cottonseed Cake. The toxic gossypol would more harmful to the pigs when heated. At this time, if taking the measures as adding proper amount of feed grade ferrous sulfate monohgydrate in feedings, it can control the toxin. Therefore, according to our country feed health standard, the cottonseed cake meal must be detoxified and the free gossypol content should be controlled under 1200 mg/kg in the feed.
Gossypol poisoning symptoms: Thoracic and abdominal dropsy; congestion in some organs and lymph node; anemia; breath hard, low reproduce ability; and even death.
Precaution:
1，control feeding quantity. Cottonseed cake meal content in Pig feed should not be more than 4% - 5%. The daily feeding amount should not exceed 200 grams for adult pigs.
2, Keep feed full nutrition. If feed are not complete, especially vitamin A and calcium lack, it is easy to cause the poisoning.
3, Water boils the feed for 1-2 hours. Boiled with 10% other flour, the detoxification effect is much better.
4, Keep the feed soaking in 2% - 3% lime water or 1% aqueous alkali for a day then clearly washing.
5, Ferrous Sulfate Solution soaking. Soak 50 kg cottonseed cake meal in 1% ferrous sulfate solution and mix it for few times. The poisoning can treat after a day and a night.
