3 Steps To Love The Work You Do

Love the work you do and the rest will fall into place

Can you Love the work you do if you have no fun? Probably not.

Can love the work you do if you don’t earn any money. No way.

Can you love the work you do if you don’t feel proud of what you are doing? You will hate every minute you need to work.

With this short and somewhat rare introduction, we boil it down to what successful entrepreneurship is all about.

It’s true that most entrepreneurs are working much more than average employees. It’s true that entrepreneurs are earning less in their building up phase. In many cases, they do not make anything at all but have to take money from their pocket to finance their Business project.

However, what is also true is that passionate entrepreneurs have a lot of fun while creating, running and growing their business.

As Nellie Akalp says in one of her Forbes articles:

“Starting your own small business is a bit like falling in love: it’s exciting, exhilarating, and new. You want to savor each moment and be your very best every minute of every day.”

The formula to love the work you do is:

Pride, Earnings, and Fun

Love The Work You Do With Pride

What comes first, the egg or the hen, is something you have heard many times. Also, it is essential to do things in the correct order, to get expected results out of it.

Many people make the fatal mistake to “go for the egg” before “having the hen.” What do I mean by that? Money is the primary driver.

Well-known entrepreneurs like Bill Gates and Steve Jobs, to mention two examples, do you think money and a “getting rich” mentality was driving these guys to spend hour after hour in the garage of their parents? Of course not!

They had a passion for developing something that they firmly believed should change the world in one way or another.

Or, as Steve Jobs once said:

” The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do.”

The passion and strong leadership did create Pride for what they were doing.

Not even the most successful investors in the world can multiply the original financial resources the way Apple and Microsoft were able to do. From an economic perspective, they created multi-billion assets out of thin air.

Well, “the thin air” in this case is the pride they have for their entire business.

In one of my blog posts from 2016, where I am comparing my two big passions, entrepreneurship and marathon running, the pride is a central part of the success. The pride of being who you are, being proud of what you are doing and what you have achieved, form the core of your progress.

Pride is, of course, nothing you can tag with a price label. But the magic that the satisfaction for what you are creating makes you love the work you do.

Love The Work You Do While Earning Money

We all want to earn money, right? However, when you start thinking about creating your business, forget for a while about the earnings you are going to get along the road.

All these flashy “get-rich-quick” offers you will find anywhere on the Internet, just ignore them if your final goal is a successful business. First of all, there are no trustworthy business models where you get rich quick. They don’t exist and are nothing else than false promises.

Secondly, if you get attracted by the money as the essential ingredient of your business, you need to think it over again. There is a quote by David Geffen giving a smart approach to the task of money and happiness:

“Anybody who thinks money will make you happy hasn’t got money.”

The bottom line of all this is that the period you need to work hard without seeing any income will be a tough time if you don’t feel any passion for what you are doing. The pride for your creation so far should be a kind of substitute for any monetary benefit, until it’s time to start harvesting for the work done.

Love The Work You Do And Have A Lot Of Fun

If you are burning for your business and proudly speak about it when somebody is asking, then you are on the right track. For sure the earnings will come, although it can take time.

Once your business is up and running, and starts to enter a phase of matureness, it has to keep moving on. As you can read in many different places, a business that is not moving forward but continues in a sort of standstill mode, in fact, is going backward.

To keep up with the same enthusiasm and passion as in the initial phase, you need to find tools to avoid the same routine over and over again. It’s dangerous and can easily turn into boringness. Add fun to your business!

In the good old days, you could never talk seriously about having fun while working. The work you had to take seriously, and having fun was something you couldn’t connect to any job-related activities.

Fortunately, today it’s completely different. The fun part can even improve the creativity and the pride you have for your business.

It’s very individual from business environment to business environment what really is fun. However, be proactive to figure out what fun part to add to your work and business.

The Pride, Earnings And Fun Formula

Summing up, “the Pride, Earnings, and Fun” formula can be the tool that helps you bring your business to where you want. Always look after that the pride part is in place even before starting.

When I was searching for something on the Internet to change my life some years ago, I tried very few alternatives until I came across this system that since then has transformed my life completely.

For sure, you have to work….quite a lot, in the beginning, to be honest. Without the pride in place, no way that I should do it. It’s like the strength to work hard increases with the level of pride you have for what you are doing.

During the whole process, the pride, earning and fun formula is present.
